Tomatillos are graciously tough little plants with some tolerance for drought, low fertility and compacted soil; they also typically perform better than tomatoes in containers. And at about 60-days to maturity, they are a reliable short growing season crop that stores very well in homemade canned salsas and preserves.

In cool climates tomatillos benefit from starting indoors, and from planting in the warmest-possible setting (e.g. in black plastic, under row covers, or in places with good reflective heat). Toma Verde is a naturally sprawling, traditional open-pollinated variety that can be staked for easier harvesting or allowed to simply grow into its natural exuberant form. The fruits of this variety are about the size of a large cherry tomato, and like all tomatillos, enclosed within beautiful paper husks.

Approximately 350-seeds. (0.5 grams).
