Replacement Hand Grip (for metal snaths)
The ash hand grips that come standard on our Austrian scythe snaths are typically exceptionally durable and can last decades in most cases. Still, accidents happen. Strong torsion can be inflicted on hand grips under heavy brush use. Lots of use in wet conditions can also weaken the wood.
And so...here's a basic replacement for when things go awry. Note that this grip will fit nearly all Austrian steel snaths (including those sold with the Brush & Forestry Scythe, the Goldmarke Folding Scythe, the Meadow & Light Brush Scythe, and the Grass & Lawn Scythe).
The installation of these grips can be tedious at first due to the tightness of the wood. To make mounting easier, we recommend carefully sanding or filing out the mounting hole to expand the diameter as needed, then slowly tap...tap...tap it into place with a rubber mallet. Once properly installed, the grips should be treated with linseed oil (keep away from heat!) to help preserve them against weathering.
