Early Jersey Wakefield Cabbage Seeds

A sweet, reliable cabbage optimized for small spaces and short growing seasons…Early Jersey Wakefield is a pre-Civil War-era a mid-Atlantic adaptation of the older English ‘Wakefield’ cabbage variety.

The tight, conical, compact heads of this cabbage mature in about 70-days to a respectable 2-lbs or so size. Like most cabbages, this is very good sown in late summer or early autumn for a frost-tolerant crop that can sit in the field for awhile (into early winter), providing fresh ongoing harvests.

Put this slightly sweet vegetable to use for sauerkraut, or slice it fresh and oven roast it with a light brush of olive oil and a dusting of Parmesan Reggiano.

Early Jersey Wakefield is a no fuss, easy to direct sow cabbage. Plant it in rows, and thin as needed for optimal spacing (about 20-inches). With the upright, conical shape you can pack these beautiful cabbages together to maximize garden space, and supply yourself with many months of winter food.
