Cocozella di Napoli Seeds
If you tire of freakish, tasteless hybrid zucchini (the kind that other gardeners always try to give away), then this traditional southern Italian variety is worth a look.
Meaty, with a high length-to-width ratio, nicely tiger striped, and slightly ribbed, this is a superior cooking squash – excellent for zucchini “pasta” (both spaghetti-style, or as healthier replacement for lasagna noodles), for fritters, and for fried blossoms.
Early Cocozella-type squash emerged from Italian gardens in the late 1500s, with continuous improvement and refinement of this variety occurring into the 1800s.
Cocozella di Napoli is a pleasingly manageable bush-type plant, good for limited garden space, with excellent fruit at just 8 to 10-inches in length. And, despite its southern Mediterranean lineage, this is a productive northern/cool-climate variety, maturing in just 55-days.
Approximately 20-seeds (4.0 grams).
