Murasaki Karashina Mustard (紫カラシナ)

A large true purple type mustard, this is a dual-use plant with seeds that can be ground into traditional Japanese mustard and the nutrient-dense leaves that are great in a bunch of different ways: pickling (including as kimchi), salads when picked small and young, or flash cooked in stir fry.

Plants mature in about 40-days, and are good for spring and late summer sowing. Large, beautiful deep purple leaves, leaves can be selectively “trimmed” for repeated harvests. This is a great frost hardy variety with a gorgeous, strong peppery flavor.
