Tiger Eye Bean Seed (UC – Disease Resistant – Organic)

An improved version of one of the world’s most beautiful South American bean varieties – Tiger Eye UC – was developed through methodical selection at the University of California for natural resistance to bean mosaic virus. The result is a plant with yields up to a third more productive than older lineages of this crop. Aside from its stunning looks and exceptional crop performance, Tiger Eye UC also has exceptional traits – similar to pinto but we think a bit softer tasting. It is a standout in chili, daals and curries, and in refried beans.

Tiger Eye UC is optimized for organic production (and organically produced in Washington’s Puget Sound region). Less aggressive pest management is required for aphids (the vector of bean mosaic virus) because of this crop’s natural disease resistance.

This is also a great bean for short growing seasons, maturing in only about 55-days. Moreover, this is an excellently water-smart variety; provide Tiger Eye with regular, but small quantities of consistent irrigation throughout the active grow phase (about the first 40-days), until the green pods reach about 4 to 6 inches in length. After that eliminate irrigation and allow the pods to dry. The bush-type growth form of this bean is appropriate for about 1-foot spacing.
